Outstanding Workshops from experts in the field of Student Activities are at the heart of our annual National Conference on Student Activities - you'll find a list of this year's workshops in the October 2017 edition of Reumors, CLICK HERE to check it out!

This year, there will be a NEW post-lunch feature called The Hall of Ideas. This session is designed to provide provide another idea sharing and networking opportunity and will be a bridge between the traditional Parade of Ideas and the more extensive idea sharing of the Meet the Pros (read on). Once again, the NCSA will provide attendees with an opportunity to Meet The Pros by attending roundtables which will relate to one of four focus areas listed below.:

  • Camp, Leadership Workshops, Retreats, Conferences
  • Leadership Classes, Lessons, Resources
  • Tips for Being a Successful Activities Advisor
  • Best Activity-Service Project-Recognition Idea-Fundraiser

The tables for presentations related to each theme will be located in the same area
of the meeting room to allow participants to easily move among tables within their area of interest. The option to move to a table in another interest area will also be possible. Conversation Cafe!

Formerly called "Focus Groups", once again we will have one hour of the NCSA dedicated to the opportunity for you to engage in valuable discussion on one of a variety of areas/topics with colleagues led by an experienced facilitator in that area/topic.

Pre-Conference Opportunties!

There will be FOUR special pre-conference opportunities to choose from:

Leadership at the Peak ($30 extra per person)
7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Chewelah Peak
Experience “Leadership Camp” first hand! Travel one hour north of Spokane to the Chewelah Peak Learning Center (CPLC) for a day of leadership camp. Washington is fortunate to have two camp facilities dedicated to leadership and learning for students in the state, with CPLC being the newest. Participants will leave the Hotel RL by charter bus at 7:30 a.m.; the day will include camp curriculum, hands-on activities, challenge course opportunities and a chance for camp folks to share philosophy, structure and goals. The bus will return to the Hotel RL in time for “campers” to freshen up before the NCSA conference opening. This pre-conference program will provide a unique opportunity for NCSA attendees to interact with some of the most talented leadership educators in the nation. Lunch, snacks and transportation are included.

Winter Recreation at the Peak ($30 extra per person)
7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Chewelah Peak
The Charter buses that will be taking members to Chewelah Peak for a mini-Leadership Camp can also transport those who decide to use the day exploring the winter recreation opportunities in the area. Snow-shoeing, cross country and down-hill skiing as well as winter hikes are all available at Chewelah Peak. Lunch, snacks and transportation are included; rental fees and lift-tickets would be the responsibility of each participant.

Speakers' Showcase
1:00-4:00 p.m. at Hotel RL
This program, which will give you the opportunity to view and interact with up and coming leadership and motivational speakers, is jointly sponsored with the National Association of State Student Council Executive Directors (NASSCED) and will be offered to participants from both organizations. This year, the following four speakers will be featured: Bellace, Ph.D., has been a youth motivational speaker and stand-up comedian since 1995. Dr. Bellace has a Ph.D. in clinical neuropsychology (the study of the brain and behavior), is a member of the National Speakers Association and the author of the book, "A Better High" (Wyatt Mackenzie, 2012).  He is also a contributing author for the National Geographic Kids book series, "This or That."  His "How to Get High Naturally" program encourages over a hundred thousand students a year worldwide to pursue natural highs and make healthy choices. Matt was a recurring comedian on truTV's hit show, "World's Dumbest." Visit his website at Ojeda Jr. has been called one of the most dynamic speakers in America today. A former university administrator, professor and small business development center director, he now focuses his energy on empowering students to succeed by teaching them that their voice is their power. He is a youth development expert, with over fifteen years of experience inspiring students, from elementary school to college and education professionals in over 40 states. Visit his website at, speaker, and youth mover, Brandon Lee White has spoken to thousands of youth and adults in nearly all 50 states about “owning it” in life and leadership.  Brandon has been seen on TLC, Discovery Health, Fit TV, and TEDx. He attended Rockhurst University where he earned his Master’s in Business as well as a double major in Business and Psychology.  Born unable to speak, Brandon says, “I was made fun of, taken out of school…..and leadership changed it all. Gonzaga Leadership Program
1:00-4:00 p.m. at Gonzaga University
We will be utilizing the talents of Gonzaga University professors and graduate students for this two-hour Leadership Workshop which will focus on Authenticity, Personal Narrative in Leadership, and Organizational Dynamics. Gonzaga University is just up-river from the conference hotel. (You might have followed the Zags in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament this past March.) Gonzaga is known for its’ world class Leadership Studies Program that offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs. This will be an engaging, interactive and powerful learning session. Details are provided in the August edition of Reumors.

You will be able to register for one of these pre-conference programs when completing your online registration for the NCSA.

Registration Fees

  • Early Bird registration = $315. Must submit registration before October 31.
  • Group registration = $295 per member. Must be at least 5 members of group and all must submit registration before October 31.
  • NASSCED member registration = $275. Must be an active member of NASSCED (National Association of State Student Council Executive Directors) and submit registration before October 21.
  • Regular registration = $335. Must submit registration before November 15.
  • Late or On-Site registration = $370. This rate is for all registrations submitted after November 15 or done in person on-site.

The online registration form will open on or around August 15. Payment can be made by credit card at the time of registration or by check (payable to NAWD) after submitting the online form.
